Jay lee
Jay is a bay area professional sound designer and audio specialist. Carrying over a decade of professional experience in audio, education, contemporary music, and community leadership, Jay relocated from Nashville in 2021 to pursue their creative interests in video games, film, and other media. Since obtaining a master’s degree in Music Technology and Applied Composition at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, they’ve been working on creative projects and managing a local audio engineering team through JL Sound LLC. When not working with audio, Jay can be found enthusiastically using public transportation to explore, looking for new charming video games to play, or enjoying some drag karaoke with friends.
Pivotal figures in their creative and technical education include Matt Levine, Jason O’Connell, Dr. Matt Jordan, Robert Gatley, Dr. Julie Hill, Andrew Levin, Dan Mellott, Dr. Jonathan Vest, Carlos Johnson, Meagan Nelson, Craig Loeffler, Angelo Outlaw, Erik Johnson, and more.
Jay has also been thoroughly involved with percussion and pageantry since 2008. Their work spans various roles including performer, instructor, designer, arranger, caption head, sound engineer, audio designer, and director for indoor and outdoor percussion ensembles. Notable groups Jay has worked for include University of Tennessee at Martin, Madison Scouts, Music City Mystique, Union City High School, Clarksville Audio Theater, Page High School, Music City Drum Corps, and more.
Their professional involvement with Percussive Arts Society (PAS) spans over 10 years and ranges from showcase concert performances and solo competitions, to coordinating group visitation and working with various committees. Most recently they worked with the Diversity Alliance to raise visibility of diverse and accomplished professionals in the community through interviews and spotlights while serving as co-chair of the LGBTQ+ Committee.
